What is an Advisory Circular?

An Advisory Circular provides guidance such as methods, procedures, and practices acceptable to the Administrator or originating country for complying with regulations and requirements in a systematic and non-regulatory manner. Advisory Circulars may also contain explanations of regulations, other guidance material, best practices, or information useful to the aviation community. Unless incorporated into a regulation by reference, Advisory Circulars are not regulatory, they do not create or change a regulatory requirement and are not binding on the public.

The FAA Advisory Circulars numbers relate to the CFR subchapter titles and correspond to the parts, and when appropriate, to the specific sections of the Federal Aviation Regulations.
